Cyn-fyfyriwr yn Ennill Gwobr Ysgoloriaeth o Fri
Dyfarnwyd Ysgoloriaeth Sir Norman Foster yng Ngholeg Prifysgol Llundain (UCL) i gyn-fyfyriwr celf.
Bydd Iolo Llwyd, a astudiodd Gelfyddyd Sylfaen ym Mharc Menai y 2018, yn derbyn ariannu llawn am ei ffioedd academaidd wrth astudio ar ei Raglen Gradd BSc mewn Pensaerniaeth.
Mae'r ysgoloriaeth, a grëwyd drwy Sefydliad Norman Foster, yn anelu at sicrhau fod y myfyrwyr mwyaf addawol yn derbyn y cyfleoedd gorau posib i fynd i mewn i'r proffesiwn o bensaernïaeth.
Dywedodd Owein Prendergast, Arweinydd Rhaglen Sylfaen Celf,
"Rydym i gyd yn eithriadol o falch o Iolo - mae'n ardderchog i weld ein cyn fyfyrwyr yn rhagori! Mae Ysgoloriaeth Sir Norman Foster yn wobr â bri mawr iddi, roedd gan Iolo ffordd unigryw o weithio, a gweld y byd, a oedd yn amlwg pa oedd yn fyfyriwr Sylfaen, felly ni ddylem synnu'n llwyr i glywed ei fod wedi ennill y wobr hon. Dymunwn y gorau i Iolo wrth iddo barhau gyda'i astudiaethau, ac edrychwn ymlaen at ddilyn hanes ei yrfa".
Dywedodd Iolo,
"Cefais sioc mawr o fod wedi fy newis fel derbynnydd yr ysgoloriaeth! Roedd y broses ymgeisio yn ddwys ac yn bleserus. Roedd cael y cyfle i gyflwyno fy ngwaith i diwtoriaid dylunio a chyfarwyddwyr ysgol UCL, ymddiriedolwyr y sefydliad a Farshid Moussavi ei hun yn ystod cyfweliadau yn anhygoel, ac rwyf yn ffodus iawn o fod wedi cael y cyfle i wneud hynny.
Yn ddiweddarach roedd cyfarfod Norman Foster ei hun a chael y cyfle i gyflwyno fy ngwaith iddo, ynghyd ag ysgolorion y flwyddyn flaenorol yn wych. Mae yna rywbeth arbennig iawn ynglŷn â gweld gwaith mewn person, mae medru codi, teimlo a chyffwrdd lluniadau, llyfrau brasluniau a modelau yn cynnig profiad gwahanol iawn - un na ellir ei ailadrodd yn dda ar-lein. Felly eto rwyf yn lwcus iawn o fod wedi cael y cyfle i wneud hyn.
Credaf pe na bai am y cwrs sylfaen celf yng Ngholeg Menai fyddwn i'n sicr ddim wedi ennill yr ysgoloriaeth hon. Mi wnaeth yr etheg gwaith a ddysgwyd ynghyd â'r gwaith a gynhyrchais yn ystod fy amser yno wir fy mharatoi ar gyfer y dyfodol! Ar ben hynny, roedd y cwrs yn gymaint o hwyl!"
Iolo Llwyd, who studied Foundation Art at Parc Menai in 2018, will receive full funding for his academic fees whilst studying his BSc Architecture Degree programme.
The scholarship, created through the Norman Foster Foundation, aims to ensure that the most promising students are given the best possible opportunities to enter the profession of architecture.
Owein Prendergast, Art Foundation Programme Leader, said,
“We are all extremely proud of Iolo - it’s great to see our past students excelling! The Sir Norman Foster Scholarship is an incredibly prestigious award, Iolo always had a unique way of working, and seeing the world, which was evident when he was a Foundation student, so we were not completely surprised to hear that he had won this award. we wish Iolo all the best as he continues with his studies, and look forward to following his career”.
Iolo said,
"I was incredibly shocked to have been picked as the recipient of the scholarship! The application process was intense and enjoyable. Having the chance to present my work to design tutors and the school directors of UCL, foundation trustees and Farshid Moussavi herself during interviews was incredible, and im very fortunate to have had the chance to do so.
Later meeting Norman Foster himself and having the chance to present my work to him, along with previous year's scholars in person was fantastic. Theres something very special about seeing work in person, being able to pick up, feel and touch drawings, sketchbooks and models provides a very different experience - one that cant be replicated well online. So again im very lucky to have had the chance to do this.
I think if not for the art foundation at Coleg Menai I certainly wouldn't have won this scholarship. The work ethics taught along with the work I produced during my time there really prepared me for the future! Additionally, the course was just so much fun!"
