Profi Sgiliau Myfyrwyr yn rowndiau terfynol Worldskills UK
Bydd myfyrwyr o adrannau Peirianneg ac Adeiladu Coleg Menai'n cymryd rhan mewn rowndiau terfynol Worldskills yn ystod y mis hwn.
Dros gyfnod o 3 i 4 diwrnod, bydd sgiliau'r dysgwr yn eu meysydd arbenigol yn cael eu beirniadu, mewn cystadleuaeth yn erbyn nifer o ddysgwyr o golegau o bob cwr o'r DU.
Bydd cyfle i ennill medalau aur, arian ac efydd a chyfle hefyd i enillwyr gael eu dewis i fod yn rhan o garfan ryngwladol fydd yn cystadlu â thimau o wledydd eraill.
Mae Tom Devine a Josh Woosnam, myfyrwyr cyrsiau plastro, wedi cyrraedd rownd derfynol y gystadleuaeth Plastro a gynhelir yng Nghaeredin rhwng y 14eg a 18fed o Dachwedd. Mae Tom, sy'n gweithio i ddarparwr tai cymdeithasol 'Adra' hefyd wedi cael ei enwebu ar gyfer gwobr 'Prentis y Flwyddyn - Urdd y Plastrwyr'.
Bydd Giorgio Brown yn teithio i Blackpool a Choleg Fylde i gymryd rhan yn rownd derfynol Turnio CNC. Cwblhaodd Giorgio gymhwyster Lefel 3 mewn Peirianneg Gweithgynhyrchu Mecanyddol yng Ngholeg Menai. A bydd myfyrwyr cyrsiau trydanol/electroneg, Adam Hopley a Cai Jones yn mynd i Blackpool hefyd i gystadlu yn rownd derfynol ym maes Electroneg Ddiwydiannol. Dyma'r ail flwyddyn i Cai gystadlu ar y pwnc hwn. Enillodd Adam fedal efydd yng Nghystadleuaeth Ysbrydoli Sgiliau Cymru ym mis Ionawr 2022.
Bydd Cai Jones, Jack Williams, Lance Reynolds ac Axl Davies sydd hefyd yn fyfyrwyr cyrsiau Trydanol/Electroneg yng Ngholeg Menai yn mynd yn erbyn ei gilydd, a myfyrwyr eraill, yn rownd derfynol y gystadleuaeth Roboteg Ddiwydiannol. Cynhelir y gystadleuaeth ym mhencadlys Fanuc UK yn Coventry a bydd gofyn i fyfyrwyr osod a rhaglennu robot diwydiannol i gyflawni tasg benodol o fewn terfyn amser. Enillodd Lance ac Axl wobrau aur yn y Gystadleuaeth Ysbrydoli Sgiliau Cymru ym mis Ionawr 2022.
Cystadleuydd arall sydd wedi ennill medal Ysbrydoli Sgiliau Cymru ydy Aron Wyn Jones, myfyriwr Lefel 3 mewn Fabrigo a Weldio a phrentis gyda Fau Trackway yn Llangefni. Bydd Aron yn teithio i Goleg Middlesbrough i gymryd rhan yn y gystadleuaeth Weldio.
Yn ogystal â'r cystadlaethau, bydd cyfle i fyfyrwyr fwynhau digwyddiadau cyngor gyrfaol fydd yn tynnu sylw at amrywiaeth eang o brentisiaethau, Lefelau-T a'r addysg dechnegol sydd ar gael. Cyflwynir cyfres o weithdai, dosbarthiadau meistr a sesiynau rhyngweithiol hefyd er mwn cynnig cyfle i siarad yn uniongyrchol â chyflogwyr ac arbenigwyr diwydiant.
Bydd y cyn-brentis a newyddiadurwr Teledu Steph McGovern yn cyflwyno medalau i enillwyr yn stiwdio 'Packed Lunch' dydd Gwener 25 Tachwedd. Mae myfyriwr Peirianneg Gyffredinol o Goleg Menai, Eva Voma, wedi cael ei dewis i fynd i'r seremoni wobrwyo yn y stiwdio fel 'Model Rôl' oherwydd ei llwyddiant a'i thalent yn y diwydiant Peirianneg.
Esboniodd Mark Allen, Pennaeth Cynorthwyol Coleg Menai,
"Hoffem ddiolch yn fawr i'n myfyrwyr sy'n cystadlu yn rowndiau terfynol Worldskills UK eleni. Mae eu cyflawniad i gyrraedd y rowndiau terfynol ar lefel genedlaethol yn brawf o'u gwaith caled a'u hangerdd"
"Mae cystadlaethau fel hyn yn gyfle gwych i fyfyrwyr roi'r sgiliau maen nhw wedi'u dysgu ar waith, ac i rwydweithio â chyflogwyr a dysgwyr sy'n rhannu'r un diddordebau â nhw".
Over a period of 3 to 4 days, the students will be judged on their abilities in their specialist area, and compete against a number of learners from colleges across the UK.
Gold, silver or bronze medals will be up for grabs, and the winners may also be chosen for the international squad to go head-to-head with teams from other countries.
Plastering students Tom Devine and Josh Woosnam, have both reached the Finals of the Plastering competition, due to take place in Edinburgh between November 14th and November 18th. Tom, who works for local social housing provider ‘Adra’, has also been nominated for the UK-wide ‘Apprentice of the Year’ Plasterers’ Guild award.
Travelling to Blackpool and Fylde College, Giorgio Brown will take part in the CNC Turning finals. Giorgio has recently completed the Level 3 Mechanical Manufacturing Engineering qualification with Coleg Menai. Electrical/Electronics students, Adam Hopley and Cai Jones, will also head up to Blackpool to compete in the Industrial Electronics finals. Cai is competing in his second UK final in this discipline, having competed last year also. Adam received the bronze model in the Inspiring Skills Wales Competition in January 2022.
Cai Jones, Jack Williams, Lance Reynolds, and Axl Davies, who also study Electrical/Electronics at Coleg Menai, will go head to head against each other, and others, in the Industrial Robotics finals. Held at Fanuc UK Headquarters in Coventry, the students will be required to set up and program an industrial robot to execute a given task under time constraints. Both Lance and Axl were awarded gold medals in the Inspiring Skills Wales Competition in January 2022.
Another competitor who has won an Inspiring Skills Wales medal is Aron Wyn Jones, Level 3 Fabrication & Welding student and apprentice at Faun Trackway in Llangefni. Aron will travel to Middlesbrough College to take part in the Welding contest.
As well as the competitions, the students will be able to enjoy inspirational careers advisory events which will highlight a wide variety of apprenticeships, T-levels and technical education on offer. The combination of workshops, masterclasses, and interactive sessions will also provide the opportunity to talk directly to employers and industry experts.
Former apprentice and TV journalist Steph McGovern will be handing out medals to the winners from her ‘Packed Lunch’ studio on Friday 25 November. Coleg Menai HNC General Engineering student, Eva Voma, has been selected to attend the medal ceremony in the live studio as a ‘Role Model’, due to her success and talent within the Engineering industry.

“We’d like to wish the best of luck to our students that are competing in this year’s WorldSkills UK Finals. Their achievement in reaching the national-level finals is testament to their hard work and passion”
