Mae myfyriwr ifanc o Goleg Llandrillo wedi ennill ei fedal gyntaf erioed ym Mhencampwriaeth Codi Pwysau Prydain, a hynny ar ôl dod i'r brig ar lefel Cymru gyfan.
Ar ôl rownd terfynol agos iawn a chwe chyfle i bob cystadleuydd godi pwysau, enillodd Thomas Roberts o Lan Conwy fedal efydd yn y categori o dan 17 oed ym Mhencampwriaeth Prydain a gynhaliwyd yn yr Army Foundation College, Harrogate, Sir Efrog.
Dyma bencampwriaeth Olympaidd genedlaethol i athletwyr hyd at 23 oed, ac mae'n cynnig cyfle i don newydd o godwyr pwysau cystadleuol wneud argraff ar lefel genedlaethol.
Mae Thomas yn gyn-ddisgybl o Ysgol Uwchradd Aberconwy, ac mae'n dilyn cwrs Cymhwyster Sylfaen ym maes Peirianneg Gwasanaethau Adeiladu (Lefel 2) ar gampws y coleg yn Llandrillo-yn-Rhos.
Dechreuodd ei ddiddordeb yn y gamp ar ôl iddo fynd i ddigwyddiad codi pwysau yn yr ysgol pan oedd yn 13 oed. Mae'n mynd i Glwb Codi Pwysau Llandudno bum gwaith yr wythnos erbyn hyn, ac yn neilltuo dwy sesiwn yn benodol i baratoi ar gyfer cystadlaethau.
Dyma'r pumed gystadleuaeth yn unig i Thomas gystadlu ynddi, a'r gyntaf ar lefel Brydeinig. Cipiodd fedal aur mewn tair cystadleuaeth a medal arian mewn categori arall yn ystod pencampwriaethau Cymreig.
Dywedodd Thomas: "Rwyf wir yn falch i fod wedi ennill y fedal efydd ym mhencampwriaethau Prydain. Mae'r dynion enillodd fedalau aur ac arian wedi bod yn codi pwysau yn llawer hirach na fi ac mae ganddynt ragor o brofiad ar lefel genedlaethol. Ar hyn o bryd rydw i'n cydbwyso fy hyfforddi gyda'r cwrs yn y coleg ac mae'n mynd yn dda iawn."
Dywedodd y tiwtor Mark Harrison: "Rydym i gyd yn falch iawn o Thomas a'r hyn mae wedi'i gyflawni ar lefel genedlaethol. Mae'n dangos ymroddiad i'r gamp codi pwysau ac i'w astudiaethau."

After a tense final involving six lifts per competitor, 17-year-old Thomas Roberts from Glan Conwy won the bronze medal in the under-17s category of the British Age Group Championships, held at the Army Foundation College in Harrogate, Yorkshire.
The competition is the national Olympic weightlifting championships for athletes aged up to 23 and regularly sees the next wave of competitive weightlifters burst onto the national scene.
Thomas, who is studying on the Foundation In Construction and Building Services Engineering course (Level 2) at the college’s Rhos-on-Sea campus, previously attended Aberconwy High School.
He became interested in the sport after attending a weightlifting event one school lunchtime when he was 13 years of age. He now attends Llandudno Weightlifting Club five days a week, with two of those sessions spent specifically training for competitions.
This is only the fifth competition Thomas has ever entered, and the first at British level. The four Welsh competitions saw Thomas achieve gold in three and silver in the other.
Thomas said: “I am really happy to have won the bronze medal at the British championships. The guys who won gold and silver have been lifting a lot longer than me and are more experienced at national level. I am currently balancing my training with my college course, which is going really well.”
Tutor Mark Harrison said: “We are all very proud of Thomas and his achievements at a national level. He shows great levels of commitment with his weightlifting and his course studies.”
