Meddai Aled Jones-Griffiths, Pennaeth Coleg Menai a Choleg Meirion-Dwyfor: “Mae hyn yn gam mawr arall tuag at greu hwb addysg a hyfforddiant pwysig yn Llangefni. Yn dilyn y datblygiad hwn, byddwn wedi buddsoddi ymhell dros £40m yn y campws dros y 10 mlynedd diwethaf.

Gwnaed y buddsoddiad yn bosibl yn sgil cefnogaeth gan Raglen Ysgolion a Cholegau ar gyfer yr 21ain Ganrif Llywodraeth Cymru. Roedd datblygiad Ffordd Gyswllt Llangefni gan Gyngor Sir Ynys Môn hefyd yn ffactor mawr y tu ôl i benderfyniad Bwrdd Llywodraethu'r Grŵp i fuddsoddi cymaint yng nghampws Llangefni.

Bydd y gwaith adeiladu yn cychwyn ym mis Medi eleni ac yn parhau hyd hydref 2022. Disgwylir i'r Ganolfan newydd fod ar agor ar gyfer myfyrwyr erbyn cychwyn 2023.

Fel cwmni sydd â'n gwreiddiau yng Ngogledd Cymru, rydym yn ymroddedig i ailfuddsoddi o fewn yr economi lleol, cefnogi a chydweithio â chwmnïau lleol, datblygu sgiliau pobl leol a dod â buddiannau cymunedol trwy gydol y cytundeb. Edrychwn ymlaen at gryfhau ein perthynas gyda GLLM y tu hwnt i'r prosiect arloesol a strategol bwysig hwn.”

"Mae hyn yn golygu fod ein prosiectau datblygu yn parhau i gefnogi'r rhwydwaith o is-gontractwyr sydd wedi'u lleoli yma yn y rhanbarth, gan gryfhau'r economi rhanbarthol a diogelu a chreu swyddi lleol. Ac fel sy'n wir am ein holl ddatblygiadau, bydd y ganolfan Gwyddorau Chwaraeon newydd yn cydymffurfio â safon 'ardderchog' BREEAM o ran cynaliadwyedd."

The £6.3m state-of-the-art project includes a brand new sports hall, large gym, changing facilities, 7 Sport Science classrooms, Sports Biometrics laboratories, staff rooms and equipment storage.

The contract award is the latest key milestone for the Grŵp's extensive strategic development programme across its estate.

Aled Jones-Griffiths, Coleg Menai & Coleg Meirion-Dwyfor Principal said: “This is another big step towards creating a regionally important education & training hub at Llangefni. It will bring the Grŵp’s investment at this campus to well over £40m over the last 10 years.

“The new Sport facility will include cutting-edge technology and equipment for monitoring athletic performance. It really will be an unbeatable facility for students who enroll on our highly regarded Sports & Public Services programme.”

The investment was made possible with support from the Welsh Government’s 21st Century Schools & Colleges Programme. Isle of Anglesey County Council’s delivery of the £11.4m Llangefni Link Road was also a significant factor behind the Grŵp Governing Board’s decision to invest heavily at Llangefni.

Construction will commence in September this year and will continue until next autumn, with the new Centre expected to be occupied and open for teaching by the start of 2023.

Richard Heaton, READ Construction’s Managing Director, said: “Read are delighted to be working with GLLM on this new state-of-the-art project. As a North Wales based company, we are committed to reinvesting the Welsh pound to within the local economy, engaging and supporting local companies, together with upskilling local people and benefiting local communities at large throughout the contract. We look forward to further strengthening our relationship with GLLM beyond the delivery of this strategically important and prestigious project.”

Wyn Thomas Director of Strategic Projects said: “We are particularly proud that once again, a top quality North Wales based company has won a major contract through our GLLM competitive procurement framework.

"This means that our development projects are continuing to feed the network of sub-contractors based here within the region, strengthening the regional economy by securing and creating Welsh jobs. And as with all our developments, the new Sports Science centre will comply with the BREEAM Excellent sustainability standard."
